MP - The Melting Point Determination & Thermometer Calibration (Mixed Melting Point Identification of an Unknown)
This is a one-day course activity. It is a timed practicum.
- Please study the theory behind mp (melting point) as a physical proptery and its determination by reading any laboratory or virtual textbook.
- Details for performing this technique will be presented in laboratory.
- Prelab, Part 1 is to be completed before coming to laboratory on the day this course activity is scheduled, see laboratory schedule.

- Please review our syllabus page 10 general overview of laboratory work as needed and complete the following:
- Supplemental packet page 95 - The Melting Point Determination & Thermometer Calibration
- Come with your notebooks prepared having a title, purpose, background, safeties and labeled diagrams and set-ups for this course activity.
- Draw diagrams and label set-ups with accuracy and precision in your notebook.
- Only part A & C on page 95 are to be performed in this course activity.
- part A (thermometer calibration) &
- Part C (unknown identification by the mixed melting point technique)
NOTE: We are NOT doing Part B eutectic mixture.
- Prelab, Part 1 notebook pages are turned in for grading at the beginning of our course period.
