Watching Videos on your PC using Windows 10 Operating System

IMPORTANT:

Use FIREFOX as your browser with QuickTime Movie 7 installed for completing all Blackboard assessments in this course.

  • VLC Media Player is a will play .mov files just fine.
  • VLC will play practically anything you throw at it, and I have always had success when using VLC to play QuickTime .mov movies.
  • For students with Window 10 operating system, VLC Media Player is as an option for QuickTime 7 for video playback.
  • Download and install VLC to play QuickTime videos and practically any other type of media file.
  • Install VLC and ensure you select “Mozilla plugin” (for Mozilla Firefox) and the “ActiveX plugin” (for Internet Explorer) options at install time. If you have already installed VLC, you can re-run the installer and ensure you select this option.
  • You can then open Firefox and videos should (hopefully) play with the VLC plug-in, which impersonates QuickTime. VLC works almost perfectly but the VLC plug-in isn’t perfect.
  • LEARN how to download and manage video files to your desktop
    • Watch "Using Video DownloadHelper Add-On In FireFox" (click here) to learn how to download and manage videos
    • Watching downloaded videos on your desktop in the VLC desktop application is also an option.
    • Downloaded videos can be clicked and dragged videos from your desktop to the VLC application icon instead of clicking and dragging videos to the QuickTime 7 application

If Blackboard prompts you to view "Secure Content," click "No" instead of yes when it asks to only view secured content.

  • Turn off your pop-up blocker in your browser.
  • Watch a silent movie with addition directions for using QuickTime 7 in Blackboard (click here)

Can see the CODE word?

  • BE SURE you are watching the video being shown from within the assessment and not somewhere else.
  • Video Code words are only attached to videos within graded assessments.
  • If you see the code word in the video below then you should be able to see the code work within a video within an assessment in Blackboard using Firefox as your browswer with correct video playback and computer settings.

code word "Welcome" in the video (click here)
