Keywords

There are two main reasons to use keywords

  1. To make your site searchable by search engines.
  2. To help you write your site's content.

Steps in incorporating keywords into your site.

  1. Make a list of words that are important to the content of your site. Start the list in the phase one.
  2. Use the keywords in your
    1. Domain name
    2. File and folder names
    3. Meta tags
      1. Title (Up to 100 characters)
      2. Keywords (Can use phrases, separate with commas)
      3. Description (Don't use returns)
      4. Author (optional) <META NAME="Author" CONTENT="kowen@sdccd.edu">
      5. Instructions to search engine spiders or robots (optional) <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW">
    4. Content of your site
      1. h1 tag
      2. Copy on your webpage, especially the opening paragraphs
      3. h2-h6 tags
      4. Alt tags
      5. Image names
