It is important to keep abreast in this field. Web Design is changing and improving everyday, and reading blogs is one way to build your skills, to find out what others are doing, and to keep up with the trends.
I have RSS feeds to my iGoogle page, which I have made the homepage for all my browsers. This way, the blogs are in my face everytime I open a browser.
