11. What do active transport require that osmosis does not?
Active transport is a property of living cells and requires an expenditure of energy to move things into or out of the cell through the cell membrane. Osmosis (movement of water) or simple diffusion are both physical processes and the cell does not expend any energy. Passive Transport in limited by molecule size and the availability of a carrier molecule to aid in transport.
