23. Name the three survivorship curves and what they represent.

The "A" (Convex) curve represents low to no juvenile mortality and they all die when their physiological life span ends. The adults have a few offspring and a lot of care is required. Humans are close to this curve.

The "B" (Straight line) curve represents an equal amount of mortality occurs through time, eventually all dieing at the end of their physiological life span. Hydra represents this curve with a given number die per time period and eventually all the original animals are dead.

The "C" (Concave) curve represents high juvenile mortality and those able to make it through that period have a good chance of living out their physiological life span. There is no care taken of the juvenile members of the population and sheer numbers of offspring help to keep the population stable. This represents a great majority of the animals who produce a tremendous number of young that have high juvenile mortalities, but once they reach adulthood have a great chance of survival.
