58. How does the social hierarchy help to stabilize a group of animals?

The 'alpha' individual is the top animal and the 'omega' is the bottom one. (Social hierarchy) This hierarchal order maintains the social status of each animal. Instead of fighting over food, places to sleep, mate selection, the social hierarchy determines which animal goes first, second, third, etc. There is very little actual fighting to determine the outcome.
