Cactus Plant |
Cactus-like plant (Euphorbia) |
A cactus plant from the North American desert and a Euphorbia from South Africa desert. Both have ribs which allow them to expand and contract with water availability and spines to discourage browsing by animals. The spines also help to radiate heat from the plant and create some shade on its surface. Similar habitats but unrelated plants evolve into similar looking species.
