3. What element is in the center of the chlorophyll molecule?
Mg (Magnesium). The Magnesium and its two electrons becomes unstable (actually causing a vibration) when light excites the chlorophyll molecule. The chlorophyll molecule becomes so unstable that the vibrational energy goes to the two electrons resulting a energy spike causing the two electrons to be released. The energized electrons are the driving force behind photophosphorylation.
