44. Know the function(s) of each leaf cell layer.

Leaf CS
  1. cuticle - a waxy layer to prevent dehydration
  2. upper epidermis - physical protection, thick layer of cellulose small amount of protoplasm.
  3. palisade layer - Mainly in the process of Light reaction, although also occurs in the spongy layer.
  4. spongy layer - Dark reaction- the fixation of carbon dioxide into a sugar.
  5. air chamber - allows gases and water intimate contact with the spongy layer.
  6. lower epidermis - physical protection
  7. stoma - allows the entry and exit of gases and water
  8. guard cell - controls the stoma
  9. bottom cuticle, a thinner layer of wax to protect the bottom part of the leaf.
